& Catskill Real Estate.com The Hudson
Valley refers to the river bed and the flats of the Hudson River and its nearby
communities in New York State. The Hudson River starts in the Adirondack Mountains
of northeast New York and flows 315 miles southward to New York City. It was not
explored by Europeans until Henry Hudson's 1609 voyage. The Hudson River Valley
was historically one of the centers of European settlements in the northeastern
United States and a strategic battleground in colonial wars. It now consists of
suburbs of the metropolitan area of New York City at its southern end, shading
into rural territory farther north. Geographically the Hudson Valley could refer
to all areas along the Hudson River, including the Bronx or even northeastern
New Jersey.
